Focusing Issues?

One thing I've noticed is that in the screenshots in the walkthrough, the tags appear much, much sharper than in my setup. Here's a screenshot from the walkthrough:

Walkthrough Tag View

And here's mine:

My Tag View

As you can see, the tags in my screenshot are quite blurred and dull, and I think this is harming the software's ability to track them.

There are a few possible causes for this: it could be that I have the camera at the wrong distance from the glass and so it can't focus properly, or the frosted glass I have used to make the table top might be too thick for this purpose. A bit more tweaking lies ahead!

Make sure you let us know how you go with the frosted glass, I was thinking of using it to so that you couldn't see inside the enclosure, but I fear it may have a negative impact on teh tracking.

I think you're probably right - I'm going to try and get some different glass/perspex samples and see which one has the best ratio of opaqueness to tag sharpness. Watch this space!

Make sure the surface you are using is only frosted on the top. The image through a frosted surface is blurred proportionally to the distance from the surface (for example, being .25" away from the frosting--as is the case if the bottom is frosted--would produce a much blurrier image than being .0025" away).

Hi,
thanks for the hints about manually registering the .ax file.
I have the same config that you describe (with ps3eye) but I still get errors... :(
'***** VIDEOINPUT LIBRARY - 0.1995 - TFW07 *****

STARTING TRACKMATESETUP: Setting up device 0
ERROR - Could not find specified video device

SETUP: Disconnecting device 0
SETUP: freeing Control
SETUP: freeing Capture Graph
SETUP: freeing Main Graph
SETUP: Device 0 disconnected and freed

OF_ERROR: error allocating a video device
OF_ERROR: please check your camera with AMCAP or other software'

Any suggestion?

@Andrea: Yes, that is the same error message I was getting; however, registering PS3Eye.ax fixed it for me, and I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest. I assume you have read through the comments here? There are some other workarounds in there I think; if not then you could perhaps try emailing Alex P. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

@Adam: Good point! I hadn't thought of that, I will try reversing my glass tonight.
